Empressa Eau de Parfum Penhaligon’s (Women) Glittering and glam without trying too hard: Empressa opens with a sparkling citrus sash blood orange, bergamot, mandarin before slipping into a jewel-toned heart where peach, dewberry, blackcurrant, rose, neroli, geranium (with cardamom, nutmeg, pink & black pepper) do a flirty waltz. Then the crown comes out: a plush, lingering base of vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood, amber, musk, frankincense (olibanum), cacao, and maltol that hums like satin at midnight. Halfeti Penhaligon’s (Unisex) Halfeti is sultry drama done right opening with a glitter of bergamot & grapefruit laced with saffron, cardamom, artemisia, and cypress leaf (think citrus martini in a spice market), then blooming into a dark, romantic Bulgarian rose with a pinch of nutmeg and jasmine. The finale is pure velvet: oud, leather, cedar, sandalwood, amber, tonka, vanilla, and musk that smolder on skin till after the after-party. Inspired by the rare “black” roses of the Turkish town of Halfeti and the house’s Trade Routes lore mysterious, opulent, and extremely compliment prone.
